Quilting traces it origins back to Ancient Egypt, a folk craft that wound its way through the Balkans, along the Mediterranean, and into Europe during the Crusades.
By the early 1800's, quilting had woven itself deeply into the fabric of Americana. What once served as a means of protection and warmth had brilliantly transformed into ornament and storytelling... every stitch a record of time and place... of identity and community. We find inspiration in the stories embedded within each pattern, and especially the hands that formed them, from the quilts of Gee's Bend and beyond.
