Terra-cotta pitchers has been used for thousands of years as water vessels due to the porous nature of the earthenware clay. The porous nature of the clay allows for water to “sweat” through and create a cooling barrier on the outside of the vessel to lower the overall temperature of the water inside. This is a vintage pitcher, with chips and nicks and signs of beautiful and storied wear. We feel this only adds to the patina of this classic shaped vessel.
